The study keeps the manor's traditional bones — coursed stone, steep gables, three chimneys — and lets the garden do the work of softening it: ivy climbs the full height of the ground floor, framing each door and window in green.
A long reflecting pool runs the length of the terrace, doubling the house and its lit windows at dusk, with a stone dining table set at one end for evenings outdoors.
Inside light spills out through tall steel-framed doors at every opening, so even in this exterior-led study the rooms beyond read as warm, lived-in and lit for the evening rather than staged for the photograph.
The study leans on the manor's existing materials rather than adding new ones: coursed local stone, a reclaimed tile roof and aged steel window frames, all softened by a single climbing plant carried the full height of the facade. The reflecting pool is the one modern addition, chosen to double the house's lit windows at dusk.
